Hearing the right voice
Featured
It seems to be imprinted in the carnal nature of human beings to look for answers everywhere else instead of from GOD. It’s like when we lose an item somewhere, then we think we’ve looked everywhere for it except we forget to look in the most obvious place, which ends up being the last place we look. It’s a bit like that when we are looking for answers. We search everywhere, except the most obvious place we are likely to find the right answers! David said this of the Lord in the Psalms: Psalm 86:7 ”In the day of my trouble I will call to you, for you will answer me.”
When we look everywhere else for answers including within ourselves, without God’s help, we will often come to the conclusion that God hasn’t spoken to us or given us direction. Continue reading

A personal Christmas message from Pastor Deborah
Featured
“It don’t mean a thing, if you aint got the Christmas swing!”
Featured
I remember, hearing an old song by Duke Ellington called “It don’t mean a thing…if you aint got that swing”. I love this old tune. It’s a very jazzy fun song but as I sung out the first line of it in my mind, I was also reminded of how people are often pressurized to “conform” to the “norm” of the Christmas season. Whether it be “over indulging” or being expected to smile on cue, or do anything else in the midst of the festivities to please other people; either way it’s pressure!
Of course it means something if you “aint got the Christmas swing!” – You don’t have to be someone or something you are not! Keeping a Colgate smile when things are not okay is not the answer, nor is moping. My point is, that things are not always as they seem on the surface.
Look at the birth of Christ. It did not happen the way some of the people thought it should happen. People had expectations of how the coming of the Messiah should have “played” out. And for some people, the Messiah had let them down! Yet when all was said and done, Christ died, and rose again to be the promised King of glory. Hindsight & tons of history as well as the guidance of Holy Spirit helps us understand today, what was impossible for many people to understand in the time when Jesus’ birth took place.
![]()
But looking further than hindsight for a moment, there is nothing worse than friends or even family telling you to get into the “swing of the season” when you are not in that “swinging” space or place! - I want to tell you that it is okay not to feel in that “groove” if you are not in that place. By the way, I am not necessarily referring to the alcohol groove, I am sure you can figure that one out with proper help, without downplaying the dangers of it, it is only a symptom of a deeper root cause anyway. What I am talking about is the spiritual and emotional place you might be finding yourself in at this time of year. It’s okay to feel despair, anxiety & sadness but don’t let yourself slip down into a pit of hopelessness and whatever you do, don’t stay in the depth of that empty space forever! Why? Because you don’t have to.

Pastor Deborah’s proverbs
Featured
People that call themselves friends, are those who will stay with you over time. They will stand with you through thick and thin, good or bad times. Trust is the glue in these authentic relationships, and love is the key ingredient. Usually, they are the friends, you can count on one hand. They are the people I hold onto.
Pastor Deborah’s Proverb for the week – Sticks & Stones
Featured
Sticks and stones will break my bones and bad words spoken will & do hurt me. It is a fallacy that words will never hurt us. We are either speaking life over people, or cursing them. Prov.18:21 “The tongue has the power of life and death…” We are all accountable for what we say to others & about others.
Bless those who curse you
Featured
Too many Christians become bitter and angry in the conflict. If we descend into hatefulness, we have already lost the battle. We must cooperate with God in turning what was meant for evil into a greater good within us. This is why we bless those who would curse us: It is not only for their sakes but to preserve our own soul from its natural response toward hatred. ~ Francis Frangipane

Part 1
We are entering a new level of identity. It is a season where God is releasing us into the fullness of God’s plan as a Kingdom People. This identity will form part of the new level of anointing of the assignment that God has placed in your life.
I want to give you 3 important points to meditate on during this time: (I will split this teaching up into three segments, one per point.)

Pastor Deborah’s Proverb for the week: How will you know them?
Featured
Who do you get your guidance from? I love how the scripture always gives us solid teaching & good advice. In essence, be careful who you listen to, who you take guidance from. Be careful of those who claim to be teachers, but yet their lives do not match their lips. They have rebelled against God, and now set their own standards and theology to suit themselves. The word is no longer their measure. – Rather seek the guidance of credible teachers, those who have stood the test of time, those of proven integrity, in the affairs of the Lord. You will know them by their fruit. - This week’s reading: Mat 7:15,16 & 20 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them…
Watch out for the Booby traps!
Featured
The “Broad gate” or road, always seems exciting before you get to the other end! It gives the appearance of a good life, filled with happiness. The neon signs flash at the entrance enticingly saying: “Come on in, and satisfy yourself and your desires, relax & enjoy!” Sound familiar? It should be, because it is a lie. The enemy wouldn’t try to attract and tempt you away from God’s promises, by saying: if you enter this broad gate you will not have a pleasurable life. It is sadly, only temporary pleasure and you will face a life without hope. No pleasure is worth that. It’s a booby trap, don’t fall for it! His name (The devil), isn’t the “Tempter” or the “father of lies”, for nothing, he tempts you in, and tells you that you will enjoy the ride!
This Broad gate, only satisfies the selfishness of our flesh. What about after that? Once we have tasted the “apple” which is deceptively candy coated; and always temporary; what then?
Remember the reality is that our enemy the devil, wants to kill and destroy us according to the scriptures (Jn10:10). But God wants you to live in the fullness of the abundant life promised to you through the ages, this is the real and authentic pleasure that comes from God’s peace which gives us a contentment that surpasses logic. It is the proof of God’s promise, which is found all over scripture. God has an amazing destiny for you; planned even before you were born; your abundant inheritance, which satisfies the spirit & soul. It is no wonder then, that the enemy will try to tempt the lower nature of human beings.
But once we find out what God has for us, nothing else in all creation, can satisfy us, like the peace, joy & supernatural love, that comes through a relationship with Jesus & living in His will & purpose.
Don’t fall for the devil’s antics and booby traps! Stay on the course, hold the compass that comes from the guidance of scripture and live in the fullness of your destiny and promise. The power of God’s love for you has been proved and written in the blood of Jesus Christ. It is a love that gives each one of us the choice. Which road are you on? When you think that the grass is greener on the other side…it might just be that “your grass” needs a little water! So before you cross over to where you think the grass is greener, first check the grass on your side, because no matter which side you care to go, either side still needs each of us to be responsible people, caring for each other, the way we live our lives & taking care of our land. Finishing Well
Featured
I discussed the topic of finishing well in my Christmas sermon message last night. I said that ultimately, to finish well, or to finish strong, we must start the right way.
Make sure you finish strong, and well in 2010, so that you can move into the next year ready for the race!
Unforgiveness is one of the reasons people don’t finish well. It brings with it, anger malice, hatred & resentment. All of which are poison to our souls and our spirit. This kind of negativity brings hardness of heart, depression, anxiety, amongst a myriad of other things, that make us unhappy.
Joy is your spiritual birthright, it is what gives you strength to get over the hurdles & finish the race and true joy and peace, can only come from God.
2Ti 4:7-8 NLT I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. 8 And now the prize awaits me–the crown of righteousness that the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that great day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his glorious return.
Make sure you are in the flow of hearing God’s word purely. Don’t lend your ears to wrong teachings and those that would tell you what you want to hear. Keep a clear mind & listen to right teaching.
Truth always brings healing. Even if it is difficult to face. Deal with anything that has stopped you from loving the “right” way, and move forward into 2011 in Christ’s unadulterated love. Be careful who and how you align yourself, because that is where your allegiance will be, and that is where you are influenced, keep your heart pure, and free from the old self.
You have been made new in Christ. Let the healing of Holy Spirit, soften your heart, and let knowledge of the word of God fill your inner being this season so that you can finish strong and start 2011 strong.
Keep the balance
Don’t neglect your prayer life or your time in God’s presence because you are on holiday! So many people are so stressed from the pressure of the year, that often people don’t just go on holiday or take leave during the Christmas season, many stop praying and reading God’s word, altogether.
They don’t just take a holiday break, they take a break from God totally! It might sound crazy, but sadly, it is true.
It’s a time to spend with family and loved ones, to draw close, to amplify the essence of what God sent his Son Jesus into the world for, in the first place. To redeem us, forgive us, and save us from ourselves!
Relax & enjoy this time with family and true friends, but keep the balance, and also stay focussed on Jesus and prepare your heart for what God has in store for you in 2011.
Let’s look at some scripture to see what Paul had to say in his final words about finishing the right way.
2Ti 4:3-5 NLT For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to right teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever they want to hear.
4 They will reject the truth and follow strange myths. 5 But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. Don’t be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at bringing others to Christ. Complete the ministry God has given you.
Merry Christmas to all of you out there in cyberspace! May 2011 be an awesome & prosperous year for you.

Pastor Deborah’s Proverb for the week – Drawing nearer to God
Featured
When we move away from God’s plan for our lives, our perceptions and ideals, become

distorted and our vision is limited to the carnal state alone. Don’t move into 2011 without being in alignment with God’s plan for your life. Don’t let pride and spiritual blindness distort & limit the vision for your destiny.
Remember nothing is impossible for God, but we have to be where God can “find” us first. Remember the story with Adam & Eve? They hid from God in their shame. Don’t hide, pursue righteousness and live in peace & in the fullness of God’s presence. With God not just present, but active in your life, your destiny, vision & purpose is expanded beyond human possibility.
God looks for hungry hearts that are surrendered completely. It’s the simplicity of God’s love, not the complication of conditional human love, that draws God near, and draws us in. – That is when we can sense the reality of the old going and the new being ushered in. Don’t move into the next season with a “stale” heart filled with pride and distorted ideas. Submit to God and the devil will flee.
Action: Surrender today, find a quiet place where you can submit yourself to God. Cry out and God will hear your cry, and then let God’s love draw you in.
Reading for Reflection:
James 4:1-15 NIV Key verses: 7&8
“1 What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? 2 You want something but don’t get it. You do not have, because you do not ask God. 3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures…6 But God gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come near to God and God will come near to you… 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and the Lord will lift you up. 11 Brothers & sisters, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against their brother or sister, or judges them speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it.
13 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow… 15 Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”

Moving with Purpose into 2011
Featured
Dear friends,
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a wonderful 2011!
I am so excited about what is to come. Even though many of us might still feel physically weary from last year, we are tying up the “strongman” to dispossess the old and move into the new.
This is the year, of making things happen!
God has shown us how easily God can do things for us. Now it is up to us to make things happen for God & God’s Kingdom purpose in earth, and in our spheres of influence! You didn’t go through all those trials in 2010 for nothing! You were busy “slaying” the enemy in the old structure, to move into your new territory & the new level God has for you this year.
Here are 6 keys to hold onto in 2011 as you move forward in the grace and power of the King of kings:
1. Focus on what God has promised, declare that it will come to pass for your life
If you focus on what God has for you and your ministry (which ultimately involves loving people as part & parcel of what you do); you will get stronger spiritually and you will feel more and more motivated to get out there and make it happen. Don’t let your mind slip into old thinking.
2. Bind up and cast out anything that could influence your life negatively or, that could have a stronghold over your body, soul or mind.
If you don’t bind up the strongman, you will carry things over to 2011 that will decay the vision God has for you, and will hinder you. If you leave some poison in the body it will still affect the body, though you may not die. Don’t let the enemy have any kind of foothold over your life this year. Otherwise he occupies certain territory and space in your life & mind, and robs you of that God given vision. – Your God given vision, (the images ideas, dreams), form part of your purpose and destiny. Treasure those things, and guard yourselves vigilantly.
3. Keep your passion alive!
If you keep your eyes on the vision & goal; you will have desire, passion and drive to move forward like a battering ram, in the spirit!
Decide today, that you are not going to let anything stop you from accomplishing all that God has in store for you this year. The devil is a specialist at making us short sighted spiritually. If you don’t have the vision in front of you, if he manages to steal it away from you; you lose hope in the promises & purpose for and of your life. Hold onto the good, leave the bad behind, and move forward in Christ. You are living and breathing for a purpose and that’s not just to take up space! God wants to use you!
4. Make Jesus your first love
God wants you to feel motivated to move forward. So, stay disciplined, don’t lose your passion no matter what obstacles come in your way. It is the overcomer that is the inheritor of the blessings and promises, in the book of Revelation, where Jesus spoke to the churches. There is no secret to being an overcomer. It is simply hearing what Jesus said to the church at Ephesus, in the book of Revelation, where he told them that they had forgotten their first love. The key to being an overcomer, is to make sure you start the year embracing Jesus as your first love.
Let me digress for a moment to cite this example: Sometimes people in committed relationships don’t understand this principle of Jesus being our first love and often jealousy can emerge in the relationship. The principle is that our relationships become more secure when they are first touched by the love of Jesus in our innermost being, and then outwardly to our loved ones. As Jesus is the head of the Church so he must be at the head of each relationship in order to set a healthy foundation of love in that relationship. It is a “combo” offer!
The love of Jesus combined with our human understanding of transferring that love, makes for a healthy relationship. Without His love, we rely on a very shaky version of what we call love! Our human love without the combination of the love of Jesus, is judgemental, jealous, possessive, insecure, critical & selfish. (I know many people feel they love wonderfully and beautifully, even without the love of Jesus!) But that is only because our human love is a “glimpse” of the love of Jesus, because Jesus is the author of love, ultimately; and as human beings we bear the characteristics of Christ’s love as we are made in his image, but in a distorted way, when that love is not activated by a living close relationship with Jesus Christ in each of our lives.
5. Put on the full armour of God wherever you go
Take up your shields of faith and get ready, the enemy has been defeated, don’t let him play “online mind games” with you, and make you think that YOU are the one defeated! Then you are letting him spam your mind with rubbish!
Put on the full armour of God, nothing will stop what God wants to do with you, in you and through you this year! –We must decrease, but God’s power must increase.
6. Claim your new identity for the season, remember to be authentic, and to keep it real!
YOU ARE GOD’S DELIGHT! (Hephzibah – Isaiah 62:4) )You have favour and influence. Your “staying power” is not mind focus, but the fire & power of the Holy Spirit, ignited in you, to change the atmosphere, wherever you go.
Keep it real- People respond much better when they know you are authentic and being who you really are!
When Jesus walked the earth, we may not have seen him but we can see where he has been! He kept it real, he was himself, and in the power of the Holy Spirit, He broke the chains of injustice & hopelessness, & brought people to freedom and into liberty.
Let your life be like Jesus, make an impact wherever you go. Don’t waste space, use it for God’s glory!
It’s your year, take it with both hands, bowed in prayer & moving in power.
I look forward to 2011 with you, together we can do all things, in Him (Christ), and through Him! Nothing is impossible with God!
2Pe 1:3-8 NIV His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, kindness; and to kindness, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Staying in the flow of God’s momentum
Featured
An Acceleration of the momentum
It is especially important in this season that we stay in the flow of how God is moving. There is about to be an acceleration of God’s power and presence in the earth, like we have never seen it, in these next few years and counting! We can see God’s plan unfolding, but we also need to be wise to the strategy of the enemy, who will try to stop our momentum, from advancing in God’s plan.
I want to be clear; my focus is not the devil but God, but I realize and have seen the grip of the enemy on people’s lives in 2010, and I feel that it is important for people to be reminded that to take their respective “Mountain” (sphere of influence in a particular part of society that they are called to); that they break the back of the enemy. To do this, people need to be aware of the devil’s strategies.
The Blind spot
What is the strategy of the enemy? Simply to block your path of advancement, by putting obstacles in your path, or taking advantage of the ones that are already there, so that you lose momentum and get off track. I said “simply”, but let’s not forget that people get caught by the devil’s traps all the time, because even though we think we know how he operates, he is always cunning and crafty. In his bid to destroy your life, he will attack you in your “blind spot”.
We all have one, much like the one in the side mirror of our cars. This is why people fall. Because many refuse to allow friends to walk alongside them, that can see their blind spots & this causes the spirit of Pride to rise up, where people might say: “I am fine, nothing is wrong with me. I can handle it.” This is very dangerous, as often those around us can see the enemy coming at us, a lot sooner than we can ourselves!
So what should your strategy be? Let me give you four points to keep you in the timing & momentum this season to take your mountain:
1. Stay Alert
Please friends, this does not mean we have to walk around like paranoid Christians, wondering when and how we are about to be attacked. So many Christians do just the opposite, and think that it is ridiculous to even think the devil is “after them.” So they do nothing, and are further blinded. In John 10, Jesus makes it clear to us that the devil comes to steal kill & destroy! Those are strong words and I think I would take the advice Jesus gives me rather than listen to my own denial.
The devil is an opportunist! He came to Jesus in the desert when he was fasting and praying and offered him food! He will use our own problems to attack us, when we are weak and our faith is low. So stay alert! That doesn’t mean we need to live in fear, we live in love, power, and God has given us a sound mind, but we must also be aware of the devil’s schemes to destroy us.
That is why the Scripture teaches us to stay alert, as the devil goes around like a roaring lion, waiting to devour us. People are often taken in by his deception, because they refuse to listen to the word. Pe 5:8 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Many people don’t even realize that the devil uses the pride in us, to help him pull us away from the inheritence.
So being aware and alert, is also recognizing our weak spots, not just our blind spots, to avoid the traps of the enemy. If there is awareness, there can be acknowledgement.
2. Resist him
1Pe 5:9-10 NIV Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers & sisters throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. 10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.
This might sound easy, or even too familiar to discuss, but so many people still get caught in this same old trap. In the book of James chap 4 the bible teaches us how we are to resist the enemy. James tells us that it is our submitting all things to God that makes the enemy flee. Yet, the spirit of Pride causes us to do the opposite. When we carry pride in any form, (hand in hand with the spirit of perfectionism I spoke about in a previous teaching), we can often begin to handle our issues in the flesh instead of submitting our problems and struggles to God, and coming alongside our mentors and friends, to pray with us.
Many people don’t like doing this when they are prideful, because then they think that other people will think that they are less than perfect, which actually we all are! Can you see how pride and perfectinism come into this? When we are feeling vulnerable we are less likely to trust others, so this is also a factor to consider. You must take a chance with people you know you can truly count on and trust, these are the times it really matters that you do.
I think it is important to keep in mind that some people don’t want to change and or refuse to change, and will continue to live with a fierce independence and an unhealthy protective defense mechanism, that keeps other people at a distance. I want to say upfront that this is very dangerous because it alienates & isolates and God’s people are meant to depend on each other, which increases trust. Sadly, most people in this position refuse to move to that next level of trust that can help them overcome and move forward into their inheritance. All you can do with this is continue to love them and pray for them. God doesn’t love them any less. They just deprive themselves of living in the full blessing and inheritance God has for them.
So we need to resist the devil in every aspect of the sinful nature, and submit it to God in repentance and humility and he (the devil) will flee.
3. Stand firm in your faith
Oten people can easily get distracted and consumed by circumstances which become their “mountains.” Problems look so big that they seem unresolvable. Remember that your problem is not your mountain. This year the only mountain in your life is the one you are taking! That is, your sphere of influence, the space and place that God will use you, is your mountain.
Many people think that they need great faith to overcome the obstacles and struggles in their midst but God’s word teaches us that we actually only need to have faith the size of a mustard seed. So stand firm in the faith you have and remember that nothing can stop you from moving forward into your inheritance. The size of the problem is never an issue for God, but we have to give it to the Lord to stand firm in our faith. As you stand firm in your faith, the Scripture says that God will restore you.
4. Stay syncronized & Focussed on your new identity in God’s plan
Don’t dwell on and focus on your struggles and problems, focus on the plan of God for your life, and quickly move into your identity this year. Keep going forward no matter what comes in your path – you can overcome it but you must keep your eyes on Jesus to get to the finish line.
You have a mountain to take and it is often our lack of faith in wondering: “Will God really come through for us?” that causes us to focus on the problem rather than the plan. Stay in the plan of God to keep the momentum and timing of God’s plan for your identity this year.
Earlier in December, God gave me a word for our church which was to make sure that we kept our minds and hearts syncronized. Our minds are powerful and wrong perceptions can really be a stumbling block. Make sure both your heart & mind are syncronized in perfect harmony.
Make sure your spirit is correctly aligned with the Lord, then you can take your mountain! The devil fears Christians who know their God given Kingdom authority (their signature sound in the spirit realm), because they are the ones who will take territory back that the enemy has stolen. They are the ones that become more than conquerors, as they overcome & release the glory of God with their gifting in the earth in their mountain with the lost, poor & the hurting.

Pastor Deborah’s Proverbs – It’s all about the Presence
Featured
Sometimes we can get so caught up in seeking God’s presents that we forget all about God’s presence! (Unknown).
It’s in the presence of the Lord that our inner being is both formed & transformed. It is woven in that secret place of building our relationship with Jesus, soaking in His presence.
In the Psalms David said it like this: Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Psa 51:11 NIV.
Before we can change the world, we must be changed within. Before we seek the presents, let’s seek God’s presence!

Purim – A reminder of God’s Providence
Featured
Purim is a reminder once again, of our God (Yahweh), the God of Providence, who freed the Jewish nation from the hand of Haman. This is the One true God, whose promises are ageless and whose promise of restoration included sending Jesus God’s only son, to be a substitute offering in our place. This broke the chains of sin, so that we could have freedom.
In this season of Lent, let us not only give up the external things, but let us reflect on the internal chains that have bound us and kept us in captivity in many other areas of our lives. Jesus came to set the captives free. Are you free?
Gal 5:1 NIRV - “Christ has set us free. He wants us to enjoy freedom. So stand firm. Don’t let the chains of slavery hold you again.“

One Spirit, One body, One love
Featured
By Rev Deborah Bell - Ephesians 4:29-31 (NIV)
29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.
In Ephesians 4, Paul speaks about the church’s life as the body of Christ, that the God given leaders are called to prepare God’s people for works of service to build the body up.
But it doesn’t stop there. The Bible tells us that the church is a living organism, Christ calls us as the whole church to “every member” ministry. No one person (as is sometimes expected, namely the Pastor), can carry out the function on their own. The role of leaders within the church has always been to help the members of the body grow in their capacity to minister to others.
Getting rid of the bitter root
That capacity of ministering, is first to other believers so that we are growing in our maturity a people who the Scriptures say, show love, not bitterness, a people who speak out of pure hearts, a people who have “plucked out” their rage, slander and every form of malice, so that they can represent Christ to those around them, and benefit all those whom they are ministering to.
Getting rid of bitterness can require people to go as far back as their childhood. Dealing with past hurts and moving in the true forgiveness that Christ taught, removes the deep roots of hurt, pain, neglect (rejection) & unhealthy punitive discipline (which often causes people to distort & reject the wonderful freeing truths found in the Scripture). Leaving these old roots inside of us, causes us to continue to grow them into our adulthood and nature, and they become like a poison to our faith.
Plucking Out!
“Plucking out” what shouldn’t be in our lives any longer, is part and parcel of how we grow into healthy Christians, and then into the maturity, of being healthy Christians. So it is vital that we “grow up in Christ” if we are to be a valid expression of Jesus in this world. The whole body “grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work” (Eph 4:16).
The focus on building one another up is not “selfish.” It is essential. Only as we grow toward maturity together can we respond fully to Jesus as He directs us to serve in the world. Only a strong and healthy body can carry out the tasks assigned to it. Our effectiveness in communicating the Gospel and the love of God to the world around us depends on our growth toward maturity.
We know we cannot do this without Christ’s love deeply set in our spirit. Let’s make room today, for more of God and less of ourselves.
Living a life of love
Paul then exhorted us to “live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us” (Eph. 5:12). Let me share a bit further with you on this, from Richards:
“As members of the body, we must no longer live as the Gentiles do (Eph. 4:17-19), but become a loving family in which growth can take place. How do the Gentiles live? Without sensitivity, indulging themselves in sensuality. This is a picture of men and women who see others as something to use. Love never degrades others or places things above human values. “I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles” (Eph. 4:17).
A New Attitude
How are we taught to live together in Christ? By putting off the former way of life (Eph. 4:20-32), we are to live with a totally new attitude: a new self that is like God in true righteousness and holiness. How does righteousness find expression in human relationships?
Practical implications
- By putting off falsehood and speaking truthfully. This involves more than not lying. It involves an open sharing of ourselves with one another, rejecting deceit.
- By rejecting the sinful actions anger drives us toward. Anger is not given a place. Before evening comes, we are to move toward reconciliation.
- By rejecting gossip and unwholesome talk. In our conversation we seek to build others up, not tear them down.
- By ridding ourselves of bitterness, rage, slander, and every form of malice. In their place, we are to express kindness and compassion, forgiving each other as God has forgiven us.
“Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love” (Eph. 4:1-2). In every New Testament passage that teaches that the church is a body, we also find an emphasis on the loving relationships that are to develop between believers. It is through living with one another in love that ministry opportunities are created, and ministry takes place.
This is the simplicity we sometimes miss. The love that grows between family members and draws us closer to each other, moves us to care. As we care, we reach out to bear one another’s burdens, to encourage and support—we minister. It is in loving that our spiritual gifts come into play.
Local churches
In Ephesians, the description of a life of love helps us define the characteristics of a healthy local church today. We have already seen that a local congregation must have a biblical understanding of ministry. The church that has a biblical understanding:
- Sees leaders as equippers.
- Sees each member as a minister.
- Pays close attention to maturing and building believers up in Christ.
- Seeks to help individuals and groups within the church serve as Christ leads.
Through such ministry, the maturing congregation has the greatest impact on the world around.”

Pastor Deborah’s Proverbs–A healthy heart manifests healthy conversation
Featured
It is not in the eloquence of our words, or even our willingness to do good, that draws people in, but rather it’s the heart that burns with a desire for more of Christ, that changes the world around us.

1Cor 2:4-5
My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on people’s wisdom, but on God’s power.
For Reflection:
A spiritually healthy heart, manifests healthy speech. Watch your heart condition & what you speak will bring glory to God! Our words are always a demonstration of the Spirit’s power when our hearts are full of Christ because we will then overflow with his glory.
- To be effective in building the Kingdom of God, we must do everything with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, the glory is God’s not ours.
- God reveals everything through the Holy Spirit. (1 Cor 2:10).
- Many people can be persuasive and clever with words, and still be very wrong. Test the spirits and make what you hear is to build you up, not just because it’s what you want to hear but because it is from God and therefore it is truth. (1Co 2:13) This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.
- Words taught by the Spirit are life giving and beneficial.Make sure that is what is coming out of your mouth. The word says that out of the overflow of our hearts our mouth speaks. (Matt. 12:34)
Have a great week!

Pastor Deborah’s Proverbs– Wisdom & Love
Featured
The gospel message gives us divine truth and opens up the intrinsic value of the unsearchable riches of Christ. It brings us revelation of our GOD, who is all wise, who knows all persons & things, within the whole circle of wisdom and knowledge. In your time of affliction, let this bring consolation to your heart.
Healthy wisdom that is born out of a revelation of love, should always result in actions that inspire others to do what is right.
Paul said this: “My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ.”
(Col 2:2)

Does God really hear me?
Featured
We often find ourselves asking God for the answers to our many questions. There are times when you may ask: “Does God really hear me?” The Scriptures tell us to call to God and God will answer!

Calling is about more than just asking. It’s a plea coupled with an understanding that God’s will is for you to prosper and succeed in every aspect of your life. There is a reliance in that call that says: “I need you Lord”. This reliance, is about having an inner knowledge of the spirit (revelation) that God is all knowing and loves you with an everlasting love. So why would God not give you the answer? – God does hear and will answer. There is assurance about that. Call out to the Lord God today, with a heart that is yielded and the Lord God will answer you!
I love this scripture in Jeremiah where the Lord God says this: ” Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”Jeremiah 33:3
Not only will the Lord God answer you friends; but God will give you great revelation about things you do not yet know! The key is to call. Your calling is an activation of your faith.

Shut The Door and Turn Off the Lights to the Last Season! – Dr Chuck Pierce
Featured
This is an excerpt from Dr Chuck Pierce sent out on the 21st July 2011 via his bulk email send.I had to share it with you as we are entering a critical period in which it will be essential to put our foot in the right place at the right time in the next few weeks, as that will determine the way in which we walk in the future. I really felt that we are entering a time where we need to be observant & watchful, in every aspect and every sphere of our lives.
Here is the word by Dr Chuck Pierce: “…We are at a place where we are prepared to SHUT THE DOOR AND TURN OFF THE LIGHTS TO THE LAST SEASON and cross the threshold to a new season of opportunity!
We recognize that we are in the three week frame known as “Between the Straits.” Historically, this commemorates the breaching of the walls of Jerusalem by the Babylonians in 586 BC and when the Temple was destroyed. Many other calamities have also occurred to Jews during this period, which causes it to be a time for special watchfulness over Israel and Jews in the nations. Since we are grafted into God’s covenant promises, we must also be watchful to overcome attempts by the enemy to block us from entering a new door to a new season!

‘This is a week of seeking. If you will set yourself apart to seek, I will restore. If you will set yourself apart to seek Me with all of your heart, with all of your face, with all of your might, with everything that You are this week, I’m going to set things in order for your future.”
This is an incredible word for us right now. Take time to seek the Lord for His plan of restoration! Later on Sunday morning I shared from Mark 4 on when Jesus and the disciples crossed the lake and encountered a great storm. When they landed on the other side, they encountered the man living in the cemetery who was possessed by an evil spirit. (What a welcoming crew!) However, ten cities were converted because of Jesus’ willingness to confront this opposition.’
For all of us this may be two hard weeks, and it may feel as if we are right in the middle of a storm. But by faith we will get to the other side! This is for us corporately as well as individually. When you get to your other side, don’t let demons knock you out and keep you from going through the gate of your future. We are being tested now to go through a gate that will cause us to have ten times the joy, the supply, the freedom, and the authority that we presently have. I am praying that each of us will not only come up to the gate by faith, but will also go through the testings to enter in!”

Is the grass really greener on the other side?
Featured
No, the grass is not greener on the other side! The greenest pasture is the one in which Christ is found. God’s word says that God leads us to the places of peace, the green pastures.
Psa 23:2 The Lord makes me lie down in green pastures, & leads me beside quiet waters. ![]()
Don’t jump onto the other side without first doing any work in the field you are in. There are challenges in every field. There are no short cuts to learning the lessons of life. Jumping fields is not the answer. Continue reading
Are you a "Road builder" or an observer? – Devotional
Featured
There are those that spend their time talking about what others should be doing, and then there are those that actually “build the road”. – The mandate of the great commission in Matt 28:19 was not be observers but to make disciples of all nations, baptising people in the Holy Spirit & teaching those that will hear, the Word of God.
Our job as Christians is to help people discover Christ on their journey of life, making him Saviour and Lord. The Scriptures teach us in many places, that Christ wants to use us, as we are grafted in the body of Christ. The local church is an essential part of making it happen, and I am a strong believer in the local church and her role to do this. – Yet there are so many that stand alongside the road instead of helping to build it together. For many, it is easier to criticize those who are doing the work in the field of life, than to actually meet the challenges that go with getting involved themselves.
